A whole new teeth(not really, it's only fixed)

Yesterday, I discovered cavities in my teeth. And awhile ago, I went to my dentist to "fix" my teeth. Apparently, I had 3 holes in my teeth. Tres. Darn cavities. I shouldn't have ate the whole 400g chocolate bar in 3 days. =(

Weeeee!

Happy Birthday!

Abigail "Abubi" Tiu
(The one on the lefmost portion of the picture. The others are extra =p)
April 24, 1991
Weeeeee! It was fun! Dianne and I decided to visit Abubi's workplace, which is Ying Ying Teahouse. Syd, Jiajia, Claudine, Mikki, Mikki's sister, and Emmanuel were also working there. (I wanna have a summer job, but it should be involved with Math =p) Hmmm.... Here's what happened:
We entered the "teahouse" (it was much of a resto rather than a teahouse), and we saw Jiajia. She said that they were in the 3rd floor. So went up. And there they were, working their jobs faithfully, as if there's no tomorrow. (Peace! =p) Syd saw Dianne. So Dianne ran to her, but on the way, she accidentally hitted(?) the chair, thus creating a crowd. Haha!
So Syd guided us to our table. At first, Dianne wasn't going to eat there, but I forced her. >:) She only ordered Shrimp Dumpling, while I ordered White Chix w/ Roast Duck Rice, Egg Tart, and Coke Zero. ( I was going to order more, but Dianne had to go to the school). So we ate and talked. We plan to work there, but there were some glitches to be fixed. I do not want to serve food, but a job that has to be involved in Math, particularly, a cashier. Dianne has no problem with it(good for her). We gave Abi pencils, 2 pencils, to be exact. =) It was really not planned, but hey, I got it as a prize from my Abacus teacher. Weee! =)
Our bill was P240. Syd told us to stay, but we had to go. So we went to Dianne's house first. But on the way, Syd called. It was short of P30. They accidentally took the other woman's white chix rice bill. Mine was white chix WITH roast duck. I also did not check the bill and told them that it was with roast duck. Life. So I'm short with P30. I'll pay them in Friday/Saturday.
When Dianne and I arrived at school, I was sweating, like a pig. My shirt was wet, as if I went to train in Track. We saw Doby, Mae, and Ivan. Doby was complaining about the entry that I had posted. (SEE: It this Doby?).
I was waiting for Almond at that time, but because of my impatience(There, I said it!), I didn't want to wait for him. Pan Lao She wasn't at the office either. So I rushed into a tricycle and told the driver to go to LRT. I waited for a Retiro jeep, since I was too stingy to ride the train. It was also because of my sweaty shirt too. So I arrived home at 2.00pm and slept at 2.45pm. =)

It's A Long List of Connections

* http:///www.ayurr.multiply.com
* It's our group account.

Here's how I met these people:

Audrey Lu - First person that I officially met on their batch. Jerome, Jasper and I were talking on the cellphone. Jasper suddenly decided to call Audrey. We talked personally on June 2007. She's a talkative one. =p but I still love her! haha! We both have the same trait anyway! She's connected to *y***n.

Nielsen Jaranilla - I asked Audrey who's Nielsen. So she told me who Nielsen is. I asked something to her about **t**r. Wahaha! I hope you don't remember it! Whenever there's an outing, I always stick to her. Weird o_O Anyway, she's also connected to *y***n. (Bloody connections!)

Gladys Yu - Nielsen introduced her to me. She helped me convert a decimal into a fraction. See? I remembered! Hmm... ******n! Hahaha! No thanks, ******n's not my standard!

Denice Sy - She's the one who told me that I was coquettish. She likes to insult me A LOT, in THE PAST. But now... it's Polarbear! Hahaha! She's also connected to **t**r and *y***n. By the way, she has an admirer. (D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G admirer/stalker)

Cindy Ong - She's the girl that I always see with ******y at the library every dismissal. Yihee! Haha! Denice introduced her to me at the McDonalds. She was asking about the form for UECM'S camp.

Rochelle Cheng - I think Nielsen/Gladys introduced her to me. Though I wasn't able to be close with her, I still enjoyed her company! She also connected too **t**r.

Ivan Arlantico - I met him at the marching band practice, and because of Almond too. I "took" Almond's cellphone =p He's also connected to *y***n.

Jerson Taguibao - I can't remember =p but one thing's for sure: Denice knows you =p

Kevin Dionisio - I met him because of Kimberly and Denice at King's. He's a toothpick.(Peace! =p)

Kimberly Li - I knew her since Grade school, because of my auntie's tutor shack. It was all-study or all-cry.

Jillian Chua - I met her because of *l**** and *******k. Yihee! Haha!

Kassandra Monzon - I met her because of Randall. Yihee? Haha!

Sharmain Go - Myles! Haha!

Monique Chua tay - Uhhmmm, I forgot what you always say to me. =p

Kevin Chua - This is what I always hear from him: OMG. (It's bad, Kokey)

John Joseph Juan - A bystander of SSP in schooldays. Though I wasn't able to be close with him, I loved his corny impersonations and tricks!

Myles Sia - Another bystander of SSP in schooldays. He talked to me as if everything's serious.

Leah Ang - Funky girl. =p

Alan Lim - I forgot. =p But he always texted me, to talk about "stuff"

Gerwin Ong - Denice introduced him to me. Hmm... he's very naughty. He kept on IM-ing me even though I was offline.

Patrick Ordonez - Another naughty guy. An hyperactive kid, to be more specific.

Allister Ching - Track? Haha!

Angel Villanueva - I met him from Campus Deputy. He was the one who drove the Bball players away.

Clarence Tan - I met her from chorale. Her conduct is very contradictory to her true nature =p (sshhh... your secret is safe!)

Darlene Tolento - Ha! Where will I start?! She's crazy with *****k! Haha!

Anyway, there were too much people that I've met this year. I'm very sorry if I have not included some people. But I would like to thank God for giving me an opportunity to meet you people! Thank You! You made my last school year very memorable! =)

My fingers are shivering

Waaah, I had my first abacus test awhile ago. It was actually a "mental abacus" test, or 心算.There, I asked Richelle for that "chang jie". =( I was shaking at that time since: 1.) I was excited 2.) I wasn't sure of my abilities. Well, it turns out that I got a perfect score. But the teacher told me to write the number "2" with a hole. Yes, the coquettish life. Hmm.. we're now in division. It's another mind-boggling challenge. :o

It's Earth Day

Dear Earth:

Happy Birthday Earth! Guess what, I ate meat minimally! Yey!! I'm so sorry that we, humans, abused you too much. Don't worry though, Jesus will come soon! Another yey! You'll be peeled, like a banana! (it's figuratively) Anyway, thank you for being here with us throughout the billion/zillion years. We love you!

Har har har, so you're 18 eh? Whatever! =p

You tricked me!!!

Anyway, we're supposed to go to Subic at 6/28.

Waaah, I hope I will not be busy.

And I really really hope that the school's (SSHS) fancy 91th anniversary party will NOT be in 6/28.

By the way, I'm too lazy to write this entry in paragraph form.

Please bear with me.

Who's invited anyway?

I am sooo confused!

Talk like someone

Let's get this straight: I wasn't able to buy the books I planned to buy today. They told me that the books that I'm supposedly to buy were out of stock =( For these past few days, I've got nothing to read. However, I'm re-reading a book. It's Animal Farm by George Orwell. I wonder how will the pigs take control of a farm in real life? =)

The books I intended to buy awhile ago:
1. Kite Runner by Kahled Hosseini(?)
2. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Kahled Hosseini(?)
3. Life of Pi by Yann Martel

ll of the books I intended to buy are inspiring. It's worth the money. But I should never lose my sense of humor and fun. (Thanks Syd!)

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Dear ********

It's not my loss. In fact, I loved what I have bought! Thank you!

P.S. Pride kills. I might question your Christianity, but I'm not in the authority of doing it. A favor: examine yourself.

I'm too tired to type it

Me talking bossy one night

They say:

"Shame on me once, shame on you twice"

I say:

"Shame on me once, shame on you twice after I have learned"

Learning is not easy. You may read your lovely quotes, but you may not know it by heart.

Learning requires concentration. Why sign up for a summer class if not interested?

Learning meets a changed perspective. Abandon the old one, adapt the new one.

Learning talks with wisdom. It's priceless, you can never sell it, unless you exchange it for something.

Learning needs perseverance. Your old life may be hard, but a changed life is harder.

It may be hard, but it is POSSIBLE.

> For now, it's my habit to modify quotes and reprimand people =p

=) + =( = =|

It's bloody math.

We are multiplying with big numbers.

And it's VERY confusing.

999 * 99= 98901

999999*999999= ?!?!

It's shocking, but it's possible.

Can I bear to solve the gigantic numbers?

My answer: yes.

P.S. If the teacher asks us to times from 1 to 10, I'll just use the power of factorial, or also known as '!'

Quotable Quotes

PRECAUTION: The quotes are very depressing. It makes your life worthless. If you're prone to suicidal thoughts, don't read it.

"Sometimes we need secrets to survive," Ignacio Suarez of Ugly Betty
> Please don't tell me that you don't have a secret. Even a toddler has a pair or three.

"All the habits of Man are evil," Old Major of Animal Farm
> Religious activities are not evil! Haha!

"Man serves no interest of other creatures except himself," Old Major of Animal Farm
>
Most of the actions would agree with it, except religious activities! Haha! Go Heaven!

"God doesn't play dice," Albert Einstein
>
Of course , He knows everything. Why would He need a dice?

That's that

Yeah, nasa multiplication na kami! Seven kaming nasa multiplication. We are Belinda, Bettina, Christine, Abigail,a gal and a kid. Unfortunately, Daryl was not included.(Aww)

I'm telling you, the beads have magic! Haha!

Updates!!!

my abacus class:
Five of us are advanced. We are belinda, bettina, christine and daryl. But only the two of us has finished the entire 3 books. Bettina and I are the only peepz =D One of us is fast in solving digits. It's me. Yeah, very weird. Among us, I'm the only one who's answering a page that has an interval of 5(with their page) . Waah, Mr. Humility might be tempted by Ms. Pride.

my life:
I'm watching Ugly Betty and Hello Francesca. Ugly Betty is self-explanatory. Hello Francesca is a Korean comedy-drama show. It's about vampires. It's funny anyway =p Hmmm... Carriedo is a DVD Haven!!!! Wherever you linger in the 2nd floor, you'll never fail to see a rectangular cardboard boxes with colorful titles.

Every(usually!!) 2pm, I would sleep in my room, then I wake up at 4pm. I've got nothing to read as of now, since all the books I want to buy are out of stock =(

I've got allowance in the summer, by the way. Weeee! Money!! Haha!!!

That's all! I do not want to check my rough composition, I'm too grouchy. (The effect of taking a nap in the afternoon, or also known as siesta)

It's Me!

My frequently used phrases:
1. "Seriously, ..."
2. "First of all,...."
3. "To tell you the truth,..."
4. "What the-"
5. "Anyway,.."
6. "By the way,..."
7. "Honestly,..."

> Wala lang. Haha!

He's In My Shadow!

For these past few days, someone has been stalking me. Yes, s-t-a-l-k-i-n-g.He keeps on asking me if I am going to this school, telling me some things that he does not supposed to know. He even knows where I live, though I did not tell him that info. I bet he is reading my blog right now.

Here's the deal:
"Stop it. I don't give a damn on what school you're going to study, or who's your crush is. I have no plans of befriending you. Stop stalking my friends, it's very RUDE. We do NOT want you to know what we are talking about. You do know that stalking is against the law, right? Well, stop it. I know that you to pose, but please do not pose in front of us. We know that already. Guess what? I am seriously tempted to call the police. I don't give a damn even if your dad's involved in the government. The government sucks and I do not want your dad's support.

Please be reminded that I'll call the police without hesitation. Don't worry, I like to debate /:) "

How... irritating!

When summer comes, boredom will be his partner. After playing 10 rounds of Tekken, eating 5 bags of potato chips, and drinking 2 1.5L of soda, you will still be bored. Then, it is time for Mr. Computer to turn on. A DSL line is all you need and it's done. You turn on the Instant Messenger. After for a few seconds, windows will keep on popping with the same message: what are you doing?

Seriously, I really get irritated with that question. Like, duh! Isn't it obvious that I'm sitting on a chair, typing on the keyboard, breathing for air and looking at the monitor? Well, I want to thank God for my frankness, so I am telling this message to these kind of people: Back off, you're a nuisance. I don't give a damn to your boredom. I WILL ignore your message. Haggle me, and you'll die.

P.S. Sorry berns, I'm frank, too frank.
P.P.S. I do not eat, drink, and play that much.

Mixed Platter

Okay then. First and foremost, I'm having a hard time breaking my habits in moving the beads in the abacus. I have to use the thumb, but I only use my index finger. I'm one of the "advanced" people there, but there's group who's more advanced than us T_T

Awhile ago, my mom woke me up. She needed me to write my business letter. Well, since I was still sleepy, I was cranky about it. My face fell on the keyboard.

Hmm..

This entry has no sense o_O

I'll end it now.

Goodbye!

Thursday, April 10, 2008

"I have a confession to make," whispered Chioa

I used the calculator.

It's not that I do not want to study abacus anymore.

Sloth killed me.

The assignment was more than 10 pages.

Argh....

At least I solved the last two columns by abacus.

However, I am not yet finished with my assignment.

There's a book left.

Yes, a book. As of now, we have 3 supplementary books.

I'm going to cram it!

Haha!

The result: I did not like the shows

The reason: They were cranky

The conclusion: I played my abacus =p (massage roller!)

Topic: Abacus Class in Liberty Hall

Expectations:
1. Classmates will be teens
2. High school environment
3. Nice teachers
4. Austin will be there
5. Chinese Abacus

Results:
1. Classmates are kids, ages 6- 10
2. Kindergarten environment
3. Terror teachers
4. Austin was not there
5. Soroban (Japanese Abacus)

I was dumbfounded! Seriously! Argh!!!! The teacher even "nagparinig" to us. She said " Do not answer the other items until told to do so," Eh, the other teacher told us to advance from the others eh! You people talk to each other! I am now encouraged to attend my class late, even though there will be a "punishment". It's only a dance, duh! Why should I be scared? I won't be scared even if it's singing!

"This is what I'll be studying for summer," says Chioa

A Brief Introduction to the Abacus

The abacus is a mechanical aid used for counting; it is not a calculator in the sense we use the word today.

Anatomy & Construction

The standard abacus can be used to perform addition, subtraction, division and multiplication; the abacus can also be used to extract square-roots and cubic roots.

The abacus is typically constructed of various types of hardwoods and comes in varying sizes. The frame of the abacus has a series of vertical rods on which a number of wooden beads are allowed to slide freely. A horizontal beam separates the frame into two sections, known as the upper deck and the lower deck.

abacus image

Abacus Parts: The various parts of the abacus are identified here: the frame, the beam, the beads and rods and the upper and lower decks.

Basics

The abacus is prepared for use by placing it flat on a table or one's lap and pushing all the beads on both the upper and lower decks away from the beam. The beads are manipulated with either the index finger or the thumb of one hand.

Bead Values

Each bead in the upper deck has a value of 5; each bead in the lower deck has a value of 1. Beads are considered counted, when moved towards the beam that separates the two decks.

Counting

After 5 beads are counted in the lower deck, the result is "carried" to the upper deck; after both beads in the upper deck are counted, the result (10) is then carried to the left-most adjacent column.

The right-most column is the ones column; the next adjacent to the left is the tens column; the next adjacent to the left is the hundreds column, and so on. Floating point calculations are performed by designating a space between 2 columns as the decimal-point and all the rows to the right of that space represent fractional portions while all the rows to the left represent whole number digits.

The number: 87,654,321 on the Abacus

Your browser does not support Java.

Abacus Applet: Numeric representation of the number: 87,654,321. If your browser is Java-capable then the applet, above, will identify the parts of the abacus in your browser's status-area as you move your mouse-pointer over it; the beads will move when you click on them and the value of each column will be displayed on the top frame.

Referring to the Figure/Applet above, the third column (from the left), representing the number 8, is counted with 1 bead from the top-deck (value 5) and 3 beads from the bottom-deck (each with a value of 1, totaling 3); the sum of the column (5+3) is 8.

Similarly, the fourth column representing the number 7, is counted with 1 bead from the top-deck (value 5) and 2 beads from the bottom-deck (each with a value of 1, totaling 2); the sum of the column (5+2) is 7.

Technique

Proper finger technique is paramount in achieving proficiency on the abacus. With a Chinese abacus, the thumb and the index finger together with the middle finger are used to manipulate the beads. Beads in lower deck are moved up with the thumb and down with the index finger. In certain calculations, the middle finger is used to move beads in the upper deck.

finger technique

Finger Technique: A Japanese textbook published in 1954 shows the proper technique for moving the beads. It shows the thumb being used to count beads in the lower deck and the index finger being used in all other cases.

With the Japanese version, only the index finger and thumb are used. The beads are moved up with the thumb and down with the index finger. However, certain complex operations require that the index finger move beads up; e.g. adding 3 to 8 (the adding of the three is called Jian Chi Jia Shi which literally means, "subtract 7 add 10").

This Java version of the abacus is a limited simulation of the real device because the fingering technique is completely obfuscated by the mouse. With a real abacus, constant practice is indispensable in achieving virtuosity and calculating speed.

clerk using abacus

The Abacus Today: A store clerk in Beijing, China uses the abacus to settle accounts. (Sep. 1997, courtesy Peter Wouda)

The Abacus Today

The abacus is still in use today by shopkeepers in Asia and "Chinatowns" in North America. The use of the abacus is still taught in Asian schools, and some few schools in the West. Blind children are taught to use the abacus where their sighted counterparts would be taught to use paper and pencil to perform calculations.

One particular use for the abacus is teaching children simple mathematics and especially multiplication; the abacus is an excellent substitute for rote memorization of multiplication tables, a particularily detestable task for young children. The abacus is also an excellent tool for teaching other base numbering systems since it easily adapts itself to any base.

The enduring interest in this ancient device is evident by ever increasing number of visitors to these pages from all around the world.

Dr. Phil's Personality Test

My score is: 42
Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

> It's supposed to be 43. I do not know why my score changed. Oh well.
>Yes, yes and yes. This is all too true to accept.
